Recognising great work in the community

You don't have to be famous to get an award or an honour, so we are told by the government's Office for Civil Society. They are very keen to see the awards system recognise the unsung heroes who do fantastic work in their out.

The awards and honours system needs to reflect society in general so nominations are encouraged from underrepresented groups, such as women, those with disabilities and those from black, Asian and ethnic minority communities.

You can nominate individuals for an honour twice a year (the New Year and the Queen's Birthday).

Organisations can be nominated for the Queens Award for Voluntary Service each year with the deadline this year being 16th September.

If you know of any worthy recipients please read the attached document headed "Nominating for and award or honour" by clicking the link in the top right of this page.

You can also contact OCS directly by phoning 0207 271 6206 if you have queries.
